BVI Spring Regatta Joins 2025 Windies Multihull Trophy Series

The BVI Spring Regatta will be part of the inaugural Windies Multihull Trophy, a new season championship designed to encourage offshore multihulls to participate in more Caribbean regattas and offshore passage events for the 2025 sailing season.

The Budget Marine Windies Multihull Trophy, launched by the Caribbean Sailing Association, will include some of the most prestigious events in the Caribbean regatta circuit, such as the Barbados Sailing Week, the Rum to Spice Race, Grenada Sailing Week, the Caribbean Multihull Challenge, the Antigua 360°, the RORC Caribbean 600, the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, the BVI Round Tortola Race, Antigua Sailing Week, and the BVI Spring Regatta.

The championship will consist of two divisions: multihulls with a length overall (LOA) of less than 60 feet, and those with an LOA of 60 feet and above. All multihulls that have made passages between the events under their own power or sail are eligible and will be automatically entered. Multihulls can count their best five scores.

“This is going to be amazing, and I invite all of my peers to come out and race at more regattas. Let’s see how many multihulls we can get out on the water.”

Robbie Ferron, founder of Budget Marine said: “We are keen sponsors of the inaugural Windies Multihull Trophy. Multihulls have been racing in the Caribbean for decades, as multis are growing in popularity a Caribbean regatta series championship will encourage even more entries in the many events.

CSA President Bastien Pouthier shared his enthusiasm for the launch of the series trophy stating: “I am really excited about the Budget Marine Windies Multihull Trophy. We have seen a vast increase in the number of multihulls coming to the region each season, and we look forward to seeing more of these boats attending events around the region.”

A member of the organizing committee with other key CSA members, Bastien assures the CSA Multihull Rule will be the rule used for all events other than the RORC events, which will use MOCRA.

Caribbean Maxi Multihull Series

The first running of the first International Maxi Association’s (IMA) Caribbean Maxi Multihull Series concluded at the end of the 2024 BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival. The series recognises the growing part of maxi yachting – private owners who wish to race large, fast multihulls, either for their pure blistering speed, in the case of the MOD70 trimarans, or, in the case of the catamarans, because their performance, combined with their huge interiors, make them the ultimate cruiser-racers.

As with other IMA series, this is open to maxis  – ie yachts of 60+ft (18.29m) LH – but in this case multihulls. The winner has their name engraved on a silver perpetual trophy, put up by the IMA.

The IMA Caribbean Maxi Multihull Series (CMMS) continues in 2025 and comprises a mix of inshore and offshore races:

1) Caribbean Multihull Challenge Race and Rally (St Maarten)
2) RORC Caribbean 600 (Antigua-Antigua)
3) St Maarten Heineken Regatta (St Maarten)
4) BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival (Tortola, BVI)
