The 45th BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival has officially opened its online registration and organizers are preparing our challenging courses and at least 18 classes to be ready for the 2016 event. To celebrate the regatta’s milestone anniversary, organizers will reward one random sailor – who has registered by Dec. 31 for the BVI Spring Regatta with drink tickets in the amount of his or her registration fee.
The BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival is on track to be another successful weeklong event featuring warm water, hot racing and cool parties. On the water, sailors compete in idyllic conditions with windward/ leeward courses and use the stunning islands to race around as well. On land, they are treated to nightly entertainment with dancing on the beach and delicious food vendors all in one location: Nanny Cay Resort and Marina. As part of the anniversary celebrations, fireworks will bring the 2016 regatta to a close after the award ceremony.
The excitement around the upcoming regatta has already started to build momentum among sailors. According to BVISR Director Judy Petz, there have been more boats confirming their attendance than in previous years. Nanny Cay Resort and Marina has also started to receive reservations for slips and all their rooms.
VX Ones Inaugural Caribbean Series
Among those who have already confirmed their attendance is the VX One Class. At least 11 boats from the fleet will take part in the inaugural VX One Caribbean Cup hosted by the BVI Spring Regatta and the St. Thomas International Regatta (March 25-27). “There are possibly six more boats with sailors coming from Australia to race,” said Petz. “This is a great addition to our one-design course and broadens our international group of sailors even more.”
Governor John Duncan supports the BVI Spring Regatta at Cowes Week
BVISR organizers have made a strong effort to attract sailors from abroad and have taken steps to reach out to the international community. In August, representatives from the BVI Spring Regatta, Nanny Cay Resort and Marina and the BVI Tourist Board hosted two parties at Cowes Week in the United Kingdom. BVI Governor John Duncan attended both parties and met with various sailors.
“Our international partnerships, venue, parties and race officers make this one a top regatta in the region,” Petz said. “The 45th anniversary will be one not to miss.”
The 45th BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival will take place between March 28- April 3, 2016. The BVI Spring Regatta and the Sailing Festival is one of the top three Caribbean sailing events, with an average of 110 yachts per year with 80% of the competitors from overseas. The Royal BVI Yacht Club, the MNA of the BVI and the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association, jointly own the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival.
