Nanny Cay Resort & Marina has the been host sponsor of the BVI Spring Regatta since 2002. The crew is already working hard to prepare for the 48th edition, March 25-31, 2019.
The Regatta Village was newly located at the outer marina last year and in 2019 it will boast 100 slips along with full provisions of ice, water, power and fuel. The inner marina is expected to be complete with 200 slips. This will give spacious room for all boats coming to race and for spectators to be part of the event.
As the regatta approaches the Nanny Cay crew works closely with the Regatta team to help build an amazing Regatta Village, which is filled with food vendors, live entertainment each night and of course a very large bar to quench the thirst of all sailors and friends. Last year the collective team was awarded the Guy Eldridge True Spirit and Enthusiasm Award.
¨We always look forward to welcome friends, old and new, to Nanny Cay, ¨ said Miles Sutherland Pilch, general manager of Nanny Cay. ¨This will be our 18th year of hosting the event, and we´re excited to present our brand spanking new marina and facilities, that make us one of the pre-eminent marinas in the Caribbean. ¨
The Sailing Festival kicks-off with the ever-popular Round Tortola Race on Tuesday, March 26, where racers circumnavigate Tortola, and vie for the Nanny Cay Cup and honours in the Nanny Cay Challenge.
The Nanny Cay Challenge was launched in 2010 when yachts visiting the BVI were invited to make an attempt to beat the latest Round Tortola Records.
The current outright and multihull record of 2 hours, 33 minutes & 40 seconds is held by local BVI trimaran Triple Jack and was set on 30 April 2015. Stephen & Heidi Benjamin´s TP52 Spookie, holds the monohull record of 3 hours, 8 minutes & 43 seconds, which they won at the 2016 BVI Spring Regatta.
Record breakers will receive a free dinner for up to 15 crew members and a jeroboam of Drappier Champagne from Ticos at the beach side Peg Legs compliments of Nanny Cay. They will also have their names added to the perpetual trophy, and a $250 donation to a BVI charity of their choice, will be made on their behalf by Nanny Cay.
